BRING ON #CAFEBRIZ #WRBC

The Cafe Biz team has been hard at work pounding the pavement and spreading the word about the upcoming Cafe Biz Expo.

It’s been a BIG week in QLD with 2 events being held. This week of festivities started at Silipo Coffee on the Gold Coast with the ‘Barista & the Pitcher’ Latte Art Smackdown. The Gold Coast Coffee Community came out in force for this event. The competition was fierce with over 30 competitors engaged. Danny Andrade of Blue Sky Coffee & Gera Davidson of Ground Control Coffee squaring off in the final with Gera taking the victory. Thank you Richard Silipo and the Silipo Coffee team on hosting an outstanding event.

The Cafe Biz crew then headed up to the Sunshine Coast to prepare for ‘The Reg… The Barber & The Barista’ event at the Lamkin Lane Espresso Bar. A Latte Art Smackdown was held with over 40 competitors featuring the Almond Breeze Barista Blend. It was a stunning clear night in readiness for contenders from all corners of Queensland travelling to put their Best Latte’ Art to the test competing for a Prize Pool of  $1,500 and a Ltd Edition Almond Breeze RB Tamper presented by the one and only Reg Barber all the way from British Columbia Canada!
The night was hosted by owner & resident coffee man Tim Adams a person well respected in Queensland and Nationally with International acclaim. He and his team are second to none delivering what was the coffee event of the year in Caloundra. This event has certainly set the benchmark for future events on the Sunshine Coast. Now that competitors have put the Almond Breeze Barista Blend to the test its now time to square off in the $2,000 #BREEZEYSMACKDOWN event which will be held during the Cafe Biz Expo on Sunday.

Josh Lazarevski from Clandestino Roaster took out First Prize whilst Gabriella Lowik of The Good Bean Espresso being runner up, well done to all involved,an amazing effort all round!!

Where to next…

Whilst our event team will be bumping into the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre on Friday industry eyes will turn to Dramanti Artisan Roaster and Veneziano Coffee. Dramanti will host a speaking session with newly crowned World Barista Champion Sasa Sestic followed by a latte art smack down with a line up of international, interstate and local baristas. At Veneziano Coffee Roasters Craig Dickson together with two time National Barista Champion Craig Simon will chat all things origin, processing, roasting, competition, street market, contract roasting and blend recipes. Following the discussion guests will be treated to a specialty cupping session of selected NINETY PLUS coffee lead by Craig Simon.

Devondale World’s Richest Barista Competition

$50,000 – 14 teams will contest this new format competition which will see them compete head to head.
Taking place over the two days of Café Biz, teams of baristas from around the world will battle it out on stage to take home the prizes in the World’s Richest Barista Competition. Only the best will survive.
The challenge is designed to reproduce the pressure of what happens in great espresso bars around the world.  Under pressure, baristas must co-operate as a team to ensure the three things that matter to coffee customers; fast service and excellent presentation whilst maintaining quality.
It’s a dynamic format that gives the judges, competitors and audience instant results.
