This is one guy in the café supply industry that I personally look up to as a master salesperson.
Try and break his attention when he is giving a sales pitch, and you will not get past his invisible force field of sheer dedication towards the sales process. He is a true craftsman when it comes to selling, and we often steer other suppliers towards Andrew who need help with the basic art of selling, especially around his trade show presence.
Andrew is the creator and General Manager of Wild One Beverages, which has an exciting range of quality natural juices and sparkling waters in its large portfolio. The company is based out of Wollongong, and they are proud of making this area the home base for his family business. It’s nice to see a person doing business in a place he loves so much; he brings back those old Wollongong the Brave images from the seventies.
Not all the credit should go to Andrew, as he has had the loyal support over the last twenty years through good and bad times from his wife, Mel, who looks after the finances and all the back end distributor logistics. Andrew and Mel have three children whom they would like to believe will be part of the business one day and are already working weekends honing the business skills.
Andrew has focused on cafés as being his main target and has taken the time to painstakingly visit hundreds of businesses throughout Australia. This tenacity has come from his original start up in the beverage industry when he purchased a drink run from a local soft drink manufacturer 18 years ago. He knows what it’s like to build up a brand in this competitive market place and how quick the trends can turn through his past experience of being a distributor for some well-known brands.
Andrew, when he left school, became a builder and also worked around the traps in light earth moving equipment as a driver. He always knew his entrepreneurial spirit and the good grounding from parents in business would lead him to running his own business one day.
Wild One is looking at being the go to for all non coffee beverages in the future in the café marketplace, and he is developing many new concepts which are leading the way in our fast paced and trendsetting hospitality sector.
Thanks Andrew, for being this issue’s Café Person.
