We are pleased to announce that Andy Easthope, Coffee Academy Manager at Grinders Coffee will oversee the production of all Espresso and Milk Based coffees at the up coming Compak Golden Bean Coffee Roaster Competition.

Andy, originally from Adelaide, started in the world of coffee as a barista while he aimed studied at University and started his career as a musician. As luck would have it, coffee eventually become his all-encompassing focus and he embraced the ceaseless chase for the perfect cup.

Andy’s love for music landed him in Melbourne where he worked as head barista at several specialty cafes to support himself. That dual passion found him at renowned cafes such as The Grocery Bar, Eden Espresso and Hoboken. “Some of the highlights of the past few years are becoming a Q grader, facilitating the Q course program at Five Senses in Victoria, and organising and judging the Brewers Cup VIC regional and national competition for two years running. I had a life-changing experience in Bali while visiting a co-operative, which really opened my eyes to the realities of the coffee supply chain. Further, I enjoyed creating some innovative and positive training experiences for Five Senses and their customer base.”

These experiences and opportunities cemented Andy’s path as well as his involvement with Grinders, where he has stepped in top a senior leadership position. His dual focuses are building a training program for Grinders land laying his hand across coffee initiatives including the refreshed high quality coffee offering at the Flagship store for grinders at 277 Lygon St Vic.

Andy is looking forward to #GetRoasted in Port Macquarie and the opportunity to work with a group of passionate baristas to produce over 1,000 coffees for judging during the 4 day event.

“Working the engine room at the Compak Golden Bean Competition will be a career highlight for me. I’m looking forward to getting amongst it and working the team of excellent baristas to pump out the 1000+ espressos across the 4 day comp, not to mention sampling a few delicious espressos myself.”
