The Bean Bank Coffee House

Aptly named, “The Bean Bank” it’s not just a coincidence but a strategically selected position between the Commonwealth Bank and Bank of Queensland in Ballina on the NSW North Coast. The first joint venture by Glenn Anthony and Efstathia (Effie) Vouris has become a hot destination for quality coffee and fine food having already won local business awards for two years running in it’s short 3.5 year history.

I first came across this new café when it was in its infancy. It exuded a wonderful vibe and I was impressed by the love the baristas put into the cup. With Glenn’s vast knowledge of hospitality in food and beverage management coupled with a background in classical music it is no surprise to find that he has turned his hand to roasting his own coffee. Currently using a vintage Probat Roaster with the assistance of Master Roaster and local identity Mark Bullivant to create some great coffees.

Glenn and Effie formulate an enormous force together with Glenn being front of house and Effie heading up the control of everything food. Effie, having the advantage of an overwhelming knowledge of Greek food, this café has set the standard taking out multiple awards to endorse what we have enjoyed many times upon both a daily and evening pop up restaurant visit.

Effie, a great artist in her own right has also wanted the café to ooze passion and so has introduced works by many varied artists to the walls of the café.

Eventually Glenn and Effie took the option to stand beside their belief and so introduced the first fully Vegetarian and Vegan Café in the town. Whilst the change was a surprise, to many it was well accepted.

They continued to grow the business with a top end coffee cart, now on sold and still selling Bean Bank Coffee outside the New Harvey Norman Complex Ballina.

Never to become complacent, they have since established the Bean Bank Coffee Roast House situated at Tweed Heads.

With the ongoing support of a great team Gera Davidson from Israel , Lucio Alva De Rivero from Peru, Shane and Maddie  the crew will welcome you every time for a great experience. Simply understanding coffee is a way of life!
