The competition
Q – What if I don’t receive the competition bags – can I still enter?
A – If you don’t get Golden Bean branded bags in time to submit your coffees, please send your coffee to us in unbranded bags clearly mark with the category number on the top left side, if it is multiply entries in the same category ensure you have a corresponding letter eg. A,B,C with your business card stapled to the bag with contact details.
Q – How do you win the Overall Compak Golden Bean?
A – You must enter a coffee in the Espresso category #1 as well as the Milk Based category #2. The two highest scoring entries you submit from each of these categories will be added together for your Golden Bean score.
Q – When should I send my coffee in and where to?
A – All competition entries are due in by the Tuesday 15th November 5.00pm EST.

Q – How can I find out about the competition guidelines?
A – Easy, just download from the Entry Forms page, click the button Download Competition Entry Guidelines for the latest up to date instructions. Please take time to read them thoroughly, we know there’s a lot of information there but it is all relevant to how you can WIN!
Q – Can I enter multiple entries in the same category?
A – Yes! You can enter the same category more than once! If you have multiple great coffees say for espresso, enter them under the blend or the origin name, ensure you select A,B,C drop down box. Each coffee will be judged separately.
Q – Can I change an entry once I have paid for it?
A – Yes you can edit an entry up until the first day of competition by logging in to your entries via the Manage Entries tab in the Golden Bean dropdown menu at the top of the page.
Q – If I contract roast for a Franchise, who gets the cudos of the win?
A – It’s completely up to you and what information you provide in your entries. If you want your Contract Roaster and Franchise Name known, then make sure you include this info in either the ROASTERY COFFEE NAME, or ENTRY NAME when entering coffees. (Eg. Awesome Roastery for Awesome Franchise – OR – Awesome Blend for Awesome Franchise)
FINALISE YOUR ENTRIES – All entries need to be paid for online on our secure site to finalise the coffee being entered. Make sure each entry status says ‘SUBMITTED $ PAID’. Coffee will not be judged if this process is not completed.

Q – Is it too late to register to attend?

Q – Why should I attend The Compak Golden Bean?
A – To meet and learn from industry leaders. We have some of the best coffee professionals presenting at the Compak Golden Bean. The opportunity also allows you to network with suppliers and other roasters from around the nation in a fun, social environment – it’s the best part of this event! Q – How do you judge so many coffees?
A – All of the delegates who attend the Compak Golden Bean complete a calibration session and help with the judging process. We can have up to 150 judges at the event.
Q – Do I get to see who’s coffee I’m judging?
A – No, the coffee is blind cupped by judges and even the baristas preparing coffees also do not know the companies they are brewing the coffee for.
Q – Fly or drive?
A – Port Macquarie is approx 4 hrs drive north of Sydney and approx 7 hrs drive south of Brisbane. If you would prefer to fly there are direct flights from Sydney, Brisbane (Virgin) and now, very excitingly, Melbourne (JetGo)! Taxi’s from the airport take about 10 minutes, and we arrange busses for most offsite evening events, so you don’t necessarily need to hire a car.
Q – Where should I book my accommodation?
A – The event is held at Rydges in Port Macquarie, which is smack bang in the middle of the CBD, on the beautiful Hastings River. If you choose to stay with Rydges Port Macquarie, ensure to mention you are apart of the GBA conference for discounted prices. There is plenty of accommodation in town that is within walking distance.
