Café Culture International hosted the annual Brisbane Almond Breeze Breezey Masters Championship at Extraction Artisan Coffee in Slacks Creek.
The event was held on Tuesday the 7th May featuring 22 of Queensland’s finest baristas.
The energy was evident from the beginning with anticipation and excitement flooding the room. A large crowd of nearly 60 spectators filled the venue tasting delicious food catered by Extraction Artisan Coffee and enjoying beverages supplied by Café Culture International.
A high quality, enjoyable smack down was inevitable.
MJ from Aremde was the barista for the night, pulling consistent shots for all competitors on their new machine Aremde Nexus One, which was the first machine of it’s kind installed in Australia.
Jeff Dutton, Alex Milosevic, Richard Silipo and Daniel Smith were the 4 judges on the night and had their work cut out for them with the quality of pours at amazingly high levels.
Dimitri Piliouras was the charming, sharply dressed, coffee aficionado MC.
Competition was tight throughout the evening and was never more evident then during the Final round with the top 2 competitors tying on exactly the same amount of points after 3 rounds of competition.
An incredibly close head to head pour off between Maiko Morimoto and Kyujong Han eventually ended with Maiko Morimoto as the 2019 Queensland Breezey Masters Champion, a deserving and gracious winner. Maiko stated after winning that Almond Breeze Barista Blend was easily the best plant milk available for latte art.
A fantastic beginning to the 2019 Breezey Masters and we would like to thank everyone involved. A special thank you must go out to Alex from Extraction Artisan Coffee for all his efforts associated with hosting the event.
We are now looking forward to the Sydney Breezey Masters held at Specialty Coffee Curators on the 21st May.
