Café Biz Adelaide – Panel Discussion: Learning from success

There’s a reason Josh Rivers is leading the way in Adelaide. His café C.R.E.A.M, or Coffee Rules Everything Around Me, is the hippest place in town with a huge following online due to their focus on quality. Josh is also a brand ambassador for Five Senses Coffee, an appointment that’s testament to his standing in the South Australian scene.

Josh is quick to point out, however, that his success has come from collaboration. “I always tell those that I’m training – whether they are managers or baristas – that it is their duty to bring out the best in their team. Success is always collaborative.”

To highlight his point, Josh points to C.R.E.A.M.’s staff stability. “In 9 months I’ve only lost three staff and each of them left to go and do something else, not because they were unhappy here. Now, compare that to most cafes which will turn over three staff per month. I pay above the award and look after my team: everything I can I put back into the staff and that’s why we are where we are now.”
