With less than two weeks to go until Cafe Biz shine their bright lights upon Brisbane, Baristas and Coffee aficionados are polishing their routines, priming their palates and readying themselves for what looks to be the most talent driven competition weekend in quite some time. Cafe Biz will play host to Queensland State coffee championships and with competition entrants spanning north to south coasts of Queensland we are gearing up to witness some major talents compete for the title in 5 separate state competitions including Barista, Latte Art, Brewers, Cup Tasters and Coffee in Good Spirits over the two days.
Saturday will see Barista heats, cup tasters and Coffee in Good spirits battle it out on centre stage finishing up with Latte Art, Brewers and Barista Finals to be held on the Sunday at Cafe Biz. Whilst exact numbers for all 5 competitions are yet to see a cut off date of 11th March 2014 we are seeing some serious names and numbers grace the pages for our AASCA accredited judges to feast their eyes and palates on. Not only will we see talented Baristas on both days of competition but the stage will also welcome not only interstate and national judges but also World Barista accredited judges. Bringing with them a vast amount of experience and knowledge these judges will display a fair and valuable feedback driven opportunity for all competitors to grow and push themselves for the next level of competition leading into Australian Nationals and possibly World titles for some of the competitors should they advance into a position to represent their Country later in the year.
AASCA will also be bringing the AASCA and SCAA collaboration Barista level 1 accreditation to Cafe Biz this year and will be running accreditation lead by Mr Alexander Forsyth over both days at Cafe Biz. To book in for accreditation you will need to hold or purchase a current AASCA membership and purchase and book for accreditation directly from the website – www.aasca.com. This is a fantastic opportunity to get accredited and gain more skill and education in an ever evolving industry.
So come along and support your favourite QLD Barista in their endeavour to showcase their skill set and secure top spot at our very own State Championships this year held in collaboration with a highly respected industry expo showcasing everything from coffee to cafe insurance and everything in between. The stage is set, the lights are positioned, Brisbane, get set to shine.
Quote from Tim Adams
Being a barista champion takes time, money, knowledge, dedication and a full understanding of all aspects of specialty coffee from seed to cup. Having successfully won an Australian barista championship and 3x qld barista championship I know what’s required and the benchmarks needed. It’s a baristas opportunity to spread their craft to the wider community and the public. Having this year’s comp at cafe biz allows the industry to showcase our baristas and allow them to be heard. Cafe biz will be a fantastic vehicle for exposing our states talent.
