The Grounds; More than just a cafe

The Grounds is built on the philosophy of creating experiences for communities through quality products, innovations and an ever-evolving vision.

Established in 2012, The Grounds of Alexandria was born from a vision to turn the then industrial concrete car park into a thriving urban sanctuary, designed as a welcoming space to bring people together. Their landmark location houses a coffee roastery, café, restaurant and bar, animal farm and garden.

Nearly three years in the making, the second outpost from The Grounds, The Grounds of the City, opened its doors in 2017, introducing a coffeehouse-inspired inner-city hub. Designed to transport guests back to an era of old-school charm and reignite the heart and soul of the city, The City offers a world-class experience grounded by warmth and charm.

When it comes to coffee, The Grounds Roastery’s unique philosophy quite simply put is not only about the technical side, but also the everyday occasions that surround coffee. Coffee is an experience; it’s about the special moments, interactions, connections and daily rituals that keep you grounded.

Led by two in-house licensed Q graders, their coffee team consistently roast every morning, followed by cuppings to evaluate the coffees and maintain quality control. In the roasting facility, The Grounds Roastery present an open door policy for guests to engage with their team and learn more as they roast. The Grounds Roastery hold their customers preferences at the forefront of the decision-making process when it comes to determining the coffees they buy and roast, while continuing to innovate and look for new ways for their customers to enjoy unique coffees.

The Grounds Roastery’s progressive offering showcases some amazingly rare coffees and varietals. Some of these coffees are exclusive to The Grounds, some have won Cup of Excellence Awards in their respective countries of origin and others are the result of collaborative projects. The team often makes the journey to origin to discover and purchase new coffees, strengthen existing relationships and forge new ones. The Grounds Roastery are extremely proud to be the last link in the supply chain and of the relationships they’ve developed within the industry.

With a strong belief that more and more consumers are turning to specialty coffee, The Grounds Roastery showcase the amount of effort that goes into producing stellar coffees. Each coffee served at The Grounds is accompanied by a single-origin profile card that tells the story of how that particular coffee has made its way to the customer; from the farm to the roaster and finally into the cup.

Working with the same producers and partners where possible from harvest to harvest, The Grounds Roastery are working toward a goal that will see them not only influence the quality of coffees at origin but also improve the lives of the farmers and the communities in which they work.

As a result of existing strong relationships, The Grounds Roastery have seen a drastic improvement in the quality of their coffee, working with producers to take an experimental approach to the way their coffee is grown and processed; manipulating and improving each step of the process, from the sorting of cherries to various fermentation and drying techniques.

Sharing their passion for business and coffee, The Grounds Roastery wholesale family includes a growing number of Sydney’s premium cafes. With a team of industry recognised professionals behind The Coffee Roastery brand, The Grounds Roastery offer ongoing training, support and state of the art equipment to set their partners up for success. Supporting businesses as they grow, The Grounds Roastery host quarterly business building masterclasses exclusively for their partners. Exploring every layer of hospitality, from venue fit-out and finances through to marketing and people management. The Grounds Roastery work to add value to their partners businesses and guide them as they grow.
They pride themselves on using their venue as a platform to cultivate the coffee industry, bringing together and showcasing Australia’s coffee professionals through latte art competitions and industry events.

Continuing to share their knowledge, The Grounds Roastery have established opportunities for their guests to learn more about their morning brew, finding ways to inspire others and make moments around coffee special. With a variety of workshops and masterclasses on rotation in their venues, they’re always looking to connect with those wanting to gain a deeper understanding of the coffee they drink. From free monthly cuppings hosted in their roastery to intimate coffee tastings with their coffee sommelier, at-home barista courses and more, The Grounds Roastery have established an accessible platform to share their knowledge.
