THE WTBC CHAMPIONSHIPS RETURN TO FINE FOOD AUSTRALIA

This will be the third year the WTBC (World Tea Brewers Championship) takes center stage at Fine food Australia, where the best tea-ristas will come together and compete over 2 days to vie for the 2018 Australian WTBC Championship. The winner will also represent Australia at the China WTBC being held at the largest food exhibition in the world ‘SIAL Shanghai’ in May 2019 (flight & accommodation provided).

The tea-ristas competing in this year’s WTBC championship will not only be judged on the tea infusion, but also their communication, presentation, brewing skills, and signature beverage creation, by panel of industry experts. Spanning the food, spirits, wine and coffee industry, each judge is a master in their own craft and will use their own particular insights and experiences to judge the competitors. The 2018 tea judges include: Michael Kinahan (T-nomics, WTBC & WTTC Head Judge), Mark Thirlwall (Tea Journeys & WTTC Head Judge), David Lyons (Founder of AUSTCS) and Tania Stacy (Cuppa cha & the 2017 Australian WTBC Champion), The Mixed industry experts from the food, wine & coffee industries will be released closer to the day on the event.

Second in popularity only to water, tea is the most consumed beverage in the world – and the Australian hospitality industry has responded accordingly. With demand for specialty teas continuing to grow, cafes and restaurants are increasingly expected to offer their customers more than just a tea bag in a cup of hot water. Now in its fifth year, the WTBC is committed to advancing the specialty tea industry and supporting the new generation of tea-ristas – through support of new developments in technology, and increasing the awareness, skills and creativity of the competitors.

Fine Food Australia is proud to host this year’s WTBC competition, and to provide a platform for industry members to hone their tea making skills.
