Queen of Leeds
114 Oxford Street
Leederville, WA
This May 2018 the team behind Felix and Co. Specialty Coffee opened a sister café in Leederville called “Queen of Leeds”. Felix & Co.’s long-time Manager Anisa Hirte has joined as a business partner with Mitch Smith and Nathan Ling. Anisa brings years of experience in hospitality including Lemon Espresso (previously in Claremont) and Proud Mary, Melbourne (owned by Nolan Hirte, Anisa’s brother).
It’s amazing how much goes into a humble coffee shop, especially when you take on the design and build yourself. Anisa designed the space and helped with the build, she designed and built the lights (drawing on her fine art background). She called on the help of her dad Bob Hirte, who built all the tables, cabinetry, benches and shelving. Josie Hirte, Anisa’s Mum did all of the chairs and upholstery and the beautiful plants throughout the cafe. Bob is no stranger to building having helped his son Nolan also built Proud Mary Coffee Roasters and Aunty Peg’s in Melbourne and Proud Mary Café, in Portland, Oregon USA.
The Queen of Leeds team don’t take themselves too seriously and can be a bit impetuous and eccentric. They are full of passion and a whole lot of fun! Most importantly they know what matters – quality products and service.
The space itself is inviting, light-filled, warm and welcoming whilst feeling fresh and comfortable. Nearly all the wood has been reclaimed or up-cycled reducing its’ environmental footprint.
The coffee menu features heavy hitters Proud Mary Coffee and Loaded Craft Roasters and other guest roasters, delivering consistent and delicious coffee with love and passion. To make things even easier for you, they even take orders via text message!
Food-wise they offer simple and super tasty toasted sandwiches, cakes and pastries like the ‘Truckers Toastie’, homemade braised steak and onion, mash potato spread and Swiss cheese, served with a tomato kasaundi. Vegetarians will love the ‘Mushroom & Gruyere Toastie’, BBQ mushroom, onion jam & gruyere. The ‘Vegan Toastie’ has roast pumpkin, smoked paprika hommus, antipasto mix and spinach. They have raw cold pressed OJ and Cloudy Apple form the Swan Valley – and will soon be getting locally produced Kombucha. Oh and if it’s sweets that you are after, the chocolate cheesecake brownie is a must try (a Hirte family secret recipe)!
The Queen of Leeds is already filled with Leederville locals, as well as commuters grabbing a takeaway coffee, to mums having brunch. For a genuine, fun and heart-felt coffee and food experience head to Queen of Leeds open seven days.
