Café Culture recently was asked to assist in setting up a practice café at the Naremburn School. This kitchen project is being run by 2016 Master Chef Australia session eight winner, Elena Duggan, and is aimed at assisting students with special behavioural needs. Café Culture reached out to it’s network of café suppliers to get loan equipment for the project.
We were overwhelmed with support from the industry with an espresso machine supplied from Sanremo Australia, and an Anfim grinder supplied by Espresso Company Australia. We also had Blue Diamond step up with some Almond Breeze Barista Blend and Alchemy Cordials Australia supplying coffee syrups and their new Turmeric Elixir. Peak Coffee Australia provided coffee and training for the hospitality students.
Channel Ten sent a film crew around from their lifestyle program “Studio 10” to film the training and some of the amazing creations that were on the table. Elena talked the shows host through the benefits of this program that gives real life skills to these group of young people to help them cope with life and let them feel their way back into main stream schooling.
Assistant Principal Larissa Caillat gave up coffee two years ago and was soon sipping on the golden brew after her students enticed her with their new-found skills.
It was an amazing project which brought the industry together, working with one another for a good cause. The project eventuated from a chance meeting between Elena Dugan and Sean Edwards, Managing Director of Café Culture Magazine, sparking the interest for the coffee project.
