Aussies praise 7-Eleven for free coffee giveaway

It sounds too good to be true, which is why customers are frothing about the convenience store’s “immense” freebie. Here’s how you can get yours.

Ahh, coffee.

Whether you’re a latte fan or choose a long black, there’s no denying the delicious morning ritual can set you back a few dollars.

Australians who order just one medium takeaway coffee each day spend on average $1522 a year on their habit, according to food and drink ordering app Skip.

Well, now there’s a way to save your money and get your fix thanks to an almost unbelievable deal from 7-Eleven.

The convenience store is giving away coffee until September 2, which is a pretty generous amount of time.

All you have to do to is bring your own reusable cup — and customers are going crazy for it.

On Facebook, thousands of 7-Eleven followers were quick to ask what the catch was with the “immense” freebie offer.

“No catch, just you and your cup,” 7-Eleven responded, adding there was “no limit” to how many times someone could get a free beverage.

“This is immense. Good one,” a delighted customer replied.

“This is awesome well done 7 Eleven,” another said, while someone else called it “the happiest day of my life”.

“Dreams do come true,” another said.

The unbelievable promotion is all happening as part of an initiative to reduce the volume of single-use cups in landfill, with Julie Laycock, general manager of marketing at 7-Eleven, telling news.com.au the reaction from customers has been overwhelming.

The offer for free coffee lasts until September 2.

“We are thrilled with the response today from our customers and the community in this shared commitment to reduce the number of single-use coffee cups that end up in landfill,” she said.

“We encourage all Australians to make this small change to their daily habits and use their reusable cups in store as part of the 7-Eleven free coffee initiative. This small change, over time, will make a significant contribution to reducing single-use cup waste.”

Not everyone is loving the deal, though, with some complaining their local branch had run out or the machine was broken.

“My friend took in his own keep cup and was rejected,” one person said, to which 7-Eleven responded promptly, asking for more details.

“Please pass this message onto your staff that it is for ‘ANY reusable cup’. I have been told multiple times from workers that it is only with their reusable cups,” another wrote.

Others praised the company for the lengthy promotion, stating the free coffee incentive lasts long enough to form the habit of bringing your own cup and ditching takeaway varieties for good.

Since the deal was revealed earlier this week on Facebook, there have been thousands of posts and comments.
