So, apparently our coffee is actually good. !?!
We’ve been in this biz for a while now, ten years to be precise. We’ve focused on providing quality coffee and care for our customers during that time. ‘Coffee + People’ has been our business catch cry as we’ve endeavoured to do the best we can in an incredible industry.
Golden Bean is the largest coffee roasting comp in the world. This annual competition welcomed entrants from all over Australia and New Zealand. Specialty coffee businesses roll up, with their best and finest coffees ready to showcase to the judges. The line-up of entrants was prestigious to say the least. Well-loved and respected companies including Campos, Proud Marys, St. Ali, Paradox, Seven Miles and many more, brought their A-game to the comp.
Our main man Ben Gleeson represented at the event, with a fresh roasted batch of what he calls ‘Walk’n on Sunshine”. It’s a blend of two standout singles; Jabanto (Ethiopia) and Bandar Jaya (Indonesia).
We were stoked to take out the gold medal for both espresso categories (milk and black). The coffee scored an incredible 38/40, the highest score in the history of the competition. We were then awarded the Overall Champions for 2019!
We asked Benny what this means for our business. He says: “We’re excited to continue our contribution to the specialty coffee industry in Australia. This is a win for the Central Coast & Hunter, an area we are so proud to be part of.”
When asked about what 2020 will look like for the business, Chris Gleeson says: “We’d love to create space for more community experience around the love of coffee. Tasting, training, education, masterclasses.. We’re always plotting our next move!”
