The Compak Golden Bean 2015 culminated with an amazing gala night of awards at the James Bond 007 dinner, Newcastle Jockey Club on Saturday night. Forget the jeans and black t-shirts often associated with the coffee industry as guests donned their finest gowns and jewels to celebrate with the winners of the 10th Compak Golden Bean Awards.

Overall Compak Golden Bean Winner: Uncle Joe’s Coffee House
The overall champions are decided by adding the espresso and milk based categories, for each roaster together to find the highest point scorer.
This year the Compak Golden Bean experienced the largest number of roasters in attendance in the event’s history, across the 3 days of coffee judging. And with over 1200 actual coffee entries the event continues to be the largest coffee roasters competition and awards in the world.
The Compak Golden Bean is designed to give coffee roasters an avenue to showcase their skills and to help promote them in the national market. Café Culture, owners of the event invite all roasters to participate. “This is an event created for the coffee industry, it is their awards”, says Sean Edwards, Managing Director of Café Culture. “We are honoured to be the guardians and facilitators of the event, to bring the industry together to create an environment for networking, innovation and learning”.
2015 included an excellent line up of industry professionals speaking on a wide range of topics that are current and of interest to coffee roasters. In addition to this the Compak Golden Bean social evenings included the Silver Chef Foghorn Craft Brewhouse, the CRA/Chux Go-Kart racing to bring out that competitive edge and of course the awards night tradition of a fun themed event, this year aptly the James Bond 007 theme.
The Compak Golden Bean has now launched into the North American market with the inaugural event in Portland, Oregon in September. Both events will continue to experience considerable growth and to provide further opportunities for the coffee industry in the years to come.
