Celina Lazarus – IABCA Business Woman of the Year – Finalist

Celina Lazarus is a pioneer in the Speciality coffee industry in Australia. Beginning her career in 2013 importing green coffee into Australia with her husband, she re-branded the company in 2015 (now called First Crop Coffee) and began her rise to prominence in the specialty coffee industry. She went on to co-found Australia’s first co-working coffee roastery called Maillard Atelier in 2016 in Melbourne. The whole time she has sourced her coffee beans in an entirely transparent, traceable and ethical manner. Celina raises money for Charity outside of business on a personal capacity, donating the money she raises to Water for Life.
The annual India Australia Business & Community Awards are a welcome sign of how far relations between Australia and India have evolved. With nearly one million people of Indian heritage now living across Australia, IABCA is a flagship event in the Australian Indian business events calendar since 2013.
IABCA celebrates the Australia India relationship while honouring migrant entrepreneurship and community leadership. These awards acknowledge migrants who have achieved and contributed greatly to our multicultural nation. IABCA raises awareness of Indians in Australia and Australians in India, in a way that encourages further growth in relations between the two countries.
The IABCA initiative directly contributes to the Australia India objectives of promoting a broader and deeper relationship between the two countries as it showcases success stories of existing Indian Australian investment and recognition of these success stories to Indian decision-makers.
IABCA is brain child of Sonia Sadiq Gandhi, Paul Harris Fellow and Director of Gandhi Creations. An award winning marketing, public relations and event management company that has been telling stories through their events for nearly a decade across the Asia-Pacific region. In 2013, they won The Best Community Event of New South Wales by Australian Event Awards for The Premier’s Harmony Dinner part of Multicultural NSW and in 2015 they won the Best New Event for New South Wales for their Diversity and Inclusion day concept for corporates. (An Australian Event Award is the pinnacle achievement for the events industry in Australia).

Victorians who have made a significant impact on the lives of others through community education will be recognised at this year’s Victorian Learn Local Awards.
Minister for Training and Skills Gayle Tierney today announced the finalists for the awards, which recognise the contribution of the more than 300 Learn Local organisations offering training in Victoria.
Finalists include Lachlan McKenzie, a Learn Local teacher from Jesuit Community College for the “Outstanding Practitioner of the Year Award”.
Lachlan has trained over 650 people in basic Barista skills, Food Safety and Hospitality, many now with employment. This is a very exciting acknowledgement for Lachlan and we wish him all the best.
This year, two acknowledgement categories – the Learn Local Legend and Learn Local Volunteer Champion – will be awarded on top of the five traditional awards categories: Pre-accredited Learners, Outstanding Practitioner, Outstanding Pathways Program, Excellence in Creating Local Solutions and AMES Australia Diversity Innovation.
In total, there is $66,000 to be won across the seven categories, with the winners announced at this year’s Learn Local Awards to be held on 31 August.

Learn Locals make a huge difference in their communities. They help people who need extra support turn their lives around with programs for people of all ages and from all walks of life.
Learn Locals have also benefited from the Labor Government’s $20 million Reconnect Program, which provides wrap around support to help Victoria’s most disadvantaged learners access training.
