The Worlds Richest Barista Competition is a team challenge and was launched at Cafe Biz Expo Brisbane in 2015. The competition saw 14 teams compete in head to head competition to produce a cafe menu of coffee beverages.
2015’s inaugural World’s Richest Barista Competition (WRBC) concluded with a nail biting finish whereby finalist Natvia Sweet Team and Veneziano Coffee Roasters could only be separate by 1 point. Both these teams will return to battle it out for the 2016 title and a share of the $50,000 prize pool.
This unique competition is designed to replicate a busy café scenario whereby a team of baristas must work together to make a range of beverages based on customer orders. At the start of each round teams will collect an order of 7 drinks which will consist of Espresso / Lattes and Dine-In / Takeaway beverages. Competitors are also requested to pour a set latte art pattern on each of the milk-based coffee beverages – Swan, Tulip, Rosetta and free pour – to challenge and demonstrate the competitors’ creativity. The seventh beverage on each order is a filter coffee, single origin espresso or a signature beverage. This competition is a true café test to find the best brew crew under real-café conditions.
WRBC 2016 will be hosted at Fine Food QLD at the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition from 10th – 12th April. 16 teams will battle over the 3 day’s and will include Australia’s best baristas, specialty coffee roasters and a number of international competitors. Team lists will be announced soon.
